Today, the Texas REALTORS® announced its support for Senate Bill 5 and Senate Joint Resolution 5, which seek to direct billions of dollars to transportation without new taxes. The measures, proposed by Senate Transportation Chair Robert Nichols (R – Jacksonville) and supported by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, would dedicate some of the sales tax already collected on the sales of new vehicles to transportation needs.

“Transportation funding is one of our top legislative priorities and we commend Gov. Patrick, Sen. Nichols and all those supporting this legislation. SB 5 and SJR 5 are innovative, effective and fiscally conservative ways to meet the state’s crucial transportation needs,” said Scott Kesner, 2015 Chairman of the Texas REALTORS®.

The Texas REALTORS® is one of the most active advocacy organizations at the Texas Capitol and  supports legislative efforts to ensure Texas remains a great place to buy, sell, lease and own real property. In recent years, Texas REALTORS® have supported responsible investments in the state’s water and transportation infrastructure, meaningful reform to the property appraisal process, and important consumer protections in real estate transactions.
