A new report from CBRE shows that the average size of warehouses built in the U.S. during 2012 to 2017 has more than doubled compared to the last development upswing, from 2002 to 2007.
The average warehouse size increased by 108,665 square feet (143%) between those time periods, and the average height rose by 3.7 feet, according to the report, with the largest expansions coming in metro areas with large populations and ample land.
The CBRE report finds that e-commerce sales are creating demand for efficient logistics space that allows online sellers to quickly move goods to consumers.
The Dallas-Fort Worth market saw an average size increase of 134,613 square feet, according to the report. Atlanta saw the largest average size increase at 268,423 square feet.
