How can you stand out in the crowd?

November 01, 2025
With 175,000 licensed agents and brokers in Texas, how do you differentiate yourself from the crowd? Here are some ideas.
Narrow your niche
Try to be everything to everyone and you may not connect with anyone.
But when you tout your expertise selling lakeview condos or industrial properties with rail access, you grab attention from people looking for an expert in that area. A smaller, defined target audience helps you leverage marketing dollars and build a robust referral network. Just make sure to follow fair-housing laws and the Code of Ethics.
Sharpen your branding and USP
What can people expect when they hire you? Responsiveness? Knowledge of eco-friendly features? Tech-savvy service? That’s your brand.
Your unique selling proposition (USP) is the client experience that supports your brand, such as responses in less than 15 minutes or the latest virtual-tour tools.
Your logo and slogan are merely a starting point. You must consistently demonstrate your brand and USP in all interactions prospects and clients have with your business.
Make yourself authentically memorable
People must remember you to hire you and refer you to their friends. Some agents make their vehicles into rolling billboards. Others create humorous social media posts, call attention to their personal style, or promote themselves with an engaging slogan.
The keys are consistency and authenticity. Don’t decide to be the agent who always wears a bolo tie if that’s not really you. People may very well pick up on that insincerity and remember you for the wrong reason.
