There are currently 38 contracts, addenda, and forms promulgated by the Texas Real Estate Commission. Before 1974, there were none.

The abundance of different contracts used by brokerages, buyers, and sellers created confusion and complexity. In June 1974, though, the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Real Estate Commission, and the Texas Association of REALTORS® created a statement of principles that led to the creation of the Broker-Lawyer Committee. To this day, the Broker-Lawyer Committee ensures that real estate license holders and consumers in Texas have access to thoroughly vetted, standardized contracts and forms.
