Call for Action

Translate this page

The National Association of REALTORS® call for action program makes it easy for you to take action when Congress is considering legislation that affects real estate.

With a few clicks, you can send a message directly to your elected officials that urges them to vote to support the real estate industry.

The latest success

A bill known as the “Housing Opportunity Through Modernization Act” passed the U.S. House unanimously in February. Then a companion bill that mirrored the House version was introduced in the U.S. Senate on June 22. That's when NAR activated the call for action asking REALTORS® to encourage their U.S. senators to support H.R. 3700.

On July 14, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed this important bill. Texas REALTORS® sent 13,973 supportive messages to U.S. Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz in response to the call for action—a record number of responses from Texas!

The president signed the bill into law on July 29, expanding the number of affordable options for homebuyers across the country.

Why this matters to your business

This legislation benefits homebuyers, taxpayers, and the real estate industry by making several much-needed reforms to existing programs and agencies:

  • Changing the lending rules for people who want to use Federal Housing Administration funding to purchase condos, which are an affordable option for first-time homebuyers
  • Speeding up the process for rural housing loans, saving time and reducing the burden on federal agencies
  • Reforming the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s rental assistance programs to expand housing access to low-income families.
