4 ways to shoot better videos

Among all buyers in Texas, 24% used online video sites as an information source for their home search, according to the 2014 Profile of Texas Homebuyers and Sellers. Make the right impression with this group and other prospects by stepping up your video skills. Here are four tips to try.

Practice, practice, practice. Before attempting anything, understand how your equipment works and get a feel for what it is like to be on camera. Practice will make you feel more comfortable when it’s time to shoot your footage.

Stop writing that script. Make an outline of your main points rather than writing a script you plan to read or memorize. Writing down just the high points will result in a conversational tone and help you avoid appearing rigid.

Pretend you’re talking to one person. Position your camera at or slightly above eye level and act as though you are speaking to only one person. Even though you’ll reach many people with your video, thinking of that wide audience may make you tense up and speak unnaturally.

Take two … three … four … Don’t plan to shoot a perfect video on your first take. Expect to do many takes to achieve the best results. And keep shooting your take even if you stumble. If you stop each time you make a mistake, you’ll expect to do it again instead of getting more comfortable with what you’re trying to say.
