A new Web site, TxHomePrograms.com, gives Texans a searchable database of affordable-housing programs that are specific to the Lone Star State. The site enables consumers to search for specific types of programs, such as downpayment assistance and below-market interest rates, available only in Texas. Many, though not all, of the programs depend on household income and whether the consumer has owned a home in the last three years. TxHomePrograms.com also has a glossary of real estate terms, outlines the homebuying process, and provides information on issues that affect many first-time buyers, such as predatory lending and credit repair. TxHomePrograms.com is a free consumer service from Texas REALTORS®. "The federal homebuyer tax credit may have expired, but there are still many Texas-specific programs that folks simply aren't aware of," says Bill Jones, chairman, Texas Association of REALTORS®. "That's why we created TxHomePrograms.com — to give Texas families the ability to easily see what's out there, in terms of homebuying assistance, that they may qualify for."
