Veterans increase homebuying power

The Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) voted unanimously recently to increase the cap on veterans' home loans from $240,000 to $325,000, a change that is expected to result in more veterans than ever taking advantage of this benefit, says Jerry Patterson, agency commissioner.

In addition, veterans may borrow as much as $60,000 from the VLB to buy tracts of land as small as one acre.

The Texas Veterans Land Board was created in 1946 to help veterans returning from World War II buy land to farm or ranch.
