Better regulate eminent domain

If the government demanded to take part or all your property, wouldn't you want certain protections to ensure an open process and fair compensation?

The issue

Improvements need to be made in eminent domain rules to ensure a fair, transparent process.

Why you should care about this

You never know how eminent domain may affect you. The state could want a swath of your ranch for a highway, or the city might seek to condemn your block to make way for new development.

What the Texas Association of REALTORS® is doing

During the 82nd Texas Legislature, the Texas Association of REALTORS® supported several eminent-domain reforms that are now law: governments are more limited in the purposes for which a property may be condemned, and taken property must be made available for resale to the original owner if it’s not used for its intended purpose after 10 years.

What you can do

If you're concerned about this issue, talk with your Texas REALTOR® and let them know you learned about it on TexasRealEstate.com.
