New law affects air conditioners
A new law regarding SEER ratings might affect you if you are planning on buying a home in the near future. The SEER rating is the efficiency measure of residential air conditioning units. The new law, which takes effect Jan. 23, 2006, boosts the required rating for a new air-conditioning unit from SEER 10 to 13. If your home purchase includes a residential service contract (aka home warranty), read it carefully. Make sure the HVAC system is covered at the new SEER level.
