REAL TipS: BUYING

Read the seller's disclosure

Before you buy a home, be sure you look closely at the seller's disclosure notice. Sellers are required by law to fill out a form that discloses material defects about the house they are selling. A material defect is a condition that significantly impacts the value, desirability, habitability, or safety of the building. If there is anything that concerns you, don't be afraid to ask questions and investigate further. Get the responses to your questions in writing.

To further protect yourself, consider hiring a professional inspector. A professional home inspection typically costs between $200-$700, but the investment can save you a lot of headaches later. To find a reputable inspector, contact your Texas REALTOR® or solicit recommendations from family and friends.
