Dear George: Can I put an offer on a house but designate someone else as the buyer? I'm not sure if I want the property and I have a friend who will buy it if I
back out.
Answer: Yes, it's legal to put language in a contract that identifies you or someone you assign as the buyer. If the seller accepts your offer, you or your friend (the assigned) must purchase the home. Hire an attorney to represent your interests in this transaction to ensure that you don't get stuck with a house you don't want.
